Holnicote Estate lies between Minehead and Porlock and, at approximately 12500 acres, is one of the largest National Trust holdings in Britain, being given to the Trust by the Acland family in 1944. Cloutsham Ball is just one of many sections of the estate which were planted with trees in the 18th and 19th centuries; these ancient oaks provide miles of splendid walking with views over the adjacent river valleys combined with glimpses of red deer and the unique Exmoor ponies which graze the hills.
