Gold Hill is the most famous street in Shaftesbury, a town full of quaint corners and superb views on the edge of a 700-foot plateau. This ancient cobbled street, running beside the walls of King Alfred’s abbey, features on countless chocolate boxes and calendars. Each year Shaftesbury plays host to the Gold Hill Fair, named after the town’s landmark, to raise money for local charities, it is the largest free event in Dorset, and attracts over 12,000 visitors.
