The River Fowey rises in the granite hills of Bodmin Moor and for the first few miles of its course travels through wild, boggy land. But at Golitha Falls, near St Cleer, it enters a heavily wooded ravine, and for nearly a mile it tumbles over a series of delightful cascades. The surrounding woods now form a National Nature Reserve, home to a wide variety of species of wildlife, including otters, bats, rare butterflies, and many different kinds of moth.
