Gravel Walk was the route for sedan chairs between the town centre and the spreading developments of the two John Woods. It was a mistake to try and alight without paying the fare. The chairman could open the top instead of the door and let the rain onto your finery. As you stroll along the Gravel Walk you can see the patchwork backside of the Wood uniform. Balconies and bays blossom out like flowers leaning towards the sun.
