The Grade II listed drinking fountain situated on The Beach in Clevedon was built by the Rev. J.S. Newman in memory of his wife, Annie. No one is quite sure when the fountain was erected but it is thought to be between 1883 and 1884. The fountain has several inscriptions, one to ‘Annie Neumann’ and another above the fountain’s red granite horse trough which reads, ‘A righteous Man Regardeth the Life of His Beast, But the Tender Mercies of the Wicked are Cruel.’ Underneath is a white marble dog bowl.
