The River Heddon flows almost due north to reach the North Devon coast at Heddon’s Mouth, about 5 miles west of the seaside resort of Lynmouth. The last mile of its journey is through the steep-sided Heddon’s Mouth Cleave, cleave being a local word for a steep valley. There are walks on each side of the river from the parking area at Hunter’s Inn and access to the South West Coast Path, a national long distance path.
