Bristol’s High Cross once marked the town centre. It stood at the junction of High Street, Wine Street, Corn Street and Broad Street. Now the original is at Stourhead and a replica of just the top part is tucked away in a corner of Berkeley Square gardens. Although the High Cross was erected in the 14th century, these statues were added in 1634. Tudor and Stuart monarchs sit oddly under their medieval canopy.
