Located on Dartmoor, Hound Tor is a fine example of a well-wethered granite outcrop. The main attractions at the site, which is managed by English Heritage, is the deserted medieval village, situated to the southeast of the tor. Excavated between 1961 and 1975, archaeologists found a series of ancient houses and barns including four longhouses and a central drainage channel. The settlement is noted in the Domesday Book as property of Tavistock Abbey.
