Here is the famous engineer in his most famous pose. He was caught on camera in the mid 1850s standing before the massive chains of the Great Eastern, almost dwarfed by his top hat. This statue by John Doubleday was presented to Bristol by Bristol and West Building Society. A companion statue of Brunel seated was commissioned for Paddington Railway Station by the Bristol and West from the same sculptor. Both were unveiled on 26 May 1982.
