Anybody who is a fan of Daphne du Maurier’s novels will enjoy a visit to the famous Jamaica Inn that was the subject of one of her best loved works of literature. The inn was first built in 1750 and was a coaching inn for travellers who had braved the danger of the moors and was also used to hide smugglers and their smuggled goods, including rum, hence its name. The inn is still used as a place to stay and there is also an impressive display of smuggling artefacts as well as an interactive experience of du Maurier’s novel.
