John Addington Symonds was born and bred in Bristol. He lived throughout the 19th Century and was known as one of the best and outspoken poets and literary critics of his age. Well known for his advocacy of all male relationships, Symonds courted controversy throughout his career and life. His work is still well respected and remains studied across the English speaking world.
