King Street was built up outside the city wall in the reign of Charles II and named after him. Still today many of its 17th-century buildings survive. The most spectacular is the Llandoger Trow, named after a ship which an early landlord had plied between Bristol and South Wales. The pub opened in the end house on the right. Now it takes up the whole row, or what survives of it - another two houses were lost in the Blitz.
