These huts, seen here with the Lizard lighthouse in the background appear rather ordinary but achieved fame in 1901 because they were involved in the first long distance wireless transmission trials over the 198 miles from the Isle of Wight. The first Transatlantic signal itself was sent from Poldhu, about 5 miles further north on the west side of the Lizard at the end of the same year. The National Trust has restored the huts and they house a museum telling the story of the development of early radio.
