Marine lakes were once very fashionable - and very useful. Clevedon lies on the Bristol Channel, which has the second highest tidal range in the world, and at low tide, the sea is a very long walk from the beach. A saltwater marine lake was a popular alternative. This one was built in 1929 and is still used by swimmers today, especially those training to swim the English Channel. It's also sometimes used for boating.
