One of the best ways to acquaint yourself with the people, nature, institutions and culture of the area is to visit this museum in Barnstaple. Some of the treasures of North Devon are on display here, which include 17th Century pewter, pottery by Brannan and furniture from the likes of Shapland and Petter. There is also an extensive military display that tells the story of the North Devonshire Regiment which is based nearby.
