It's been a few years now since i went to newquay, but i was there for my first ever surfing holiday, having never properly surfed before. We had great fun but I didn't get the feeling it was an especially up-market resort. Probably great if you enjoy a busy nightlife but personally I'd be after something a little quieter and have preferred holidaying in other locations in Cornwall since.

I went on a surfing holiday to Newquay with a group of friends, having never surfed before. Although our accommodation was basic at best (a significant number of the group needed us to be somewhere cheap! ), we still all had a great time. Most of us were non-surfers but, after a few lessons, we were at least getting to grips with some of the basics and even managing to stand for a few seconds now and again!! If you're into surfing - whether you're a novice or an expert - Newquay is a great place to base yourself.
