The moated castle at Nunney is a striking and magnificent part of the local Somerset countryside. The property is under the administration of English Heritage and has been extremely well preserved. Sir John de la Mere, a local knight, built the original structure in 1370. The castle played an important part on the king’s side during the English Civil War and there are several informative signs that tell the story on-site.
