Commanding one of the highest points in the town of Tavistock, Our Lady of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church looks down on the community that was the birthplace of Sir Francis Drake. This imposing church was original built as an Anglican Church in 1865 at the instruction of the then Duke of Bedford. Inside Our Lady of the Assumption, the ceiling is taller than that found in Exeter Cathedral. In 1951 it became a Roman Catholic Church.
