You wouldn’t guess it at a glance, but this is one of Plymouth’s oldest buildings. Long thought to be a former friary (hence the name), it is now seen as a Tudor merchant’s house, converted to a gin distillery in 1793. Here is made the Plymouth Gin traditionally provided to men on Royal Navy ships. There are guided tours of the works. Or you can enjoy a meal or a drink on the premises. The former hall with its fine timber barrel roof built in 1431 is now a cocktail lounge. There is also a café and shop.
