A poignant reminder of the men and women of the Commonwealth who lost their lives during the two world wars. The memorial was originally erected in 1920 to honour those killed in World War I, but a sunken garden was added after 1945 to pay tribute to those who were killed during World War II. 22,443 names are inscribed around this imposing monument, which is situated on Plymouth Hoe and looks out to sea across Plymouth Sound.
