A sand and shingle beach on the north coast of Cornwall, and very popular with tourists and surfers during the summer months. The village of Polzeath has plenty of facilities and accommodation for visitors, including restaurants, pubs, souvenir shops, and surf hire. The beach almost disappears at high tide, and bordering it are large cliffs where interesting coastal paths allow you to walk for miles around some impressive coastline. The late poet Sir John Betjeman was a fan of Polzeath, and it is mentioned in some of his poems.

I visited this beach earlier this week and our children had their first ever surf lesson with a company called Wavehunters there. (We were staying at the excellent St. Moritz hotel in Trebetherick who appear to have a tie-up with them. ) Our boys really enjoyed the surfing. It was a 2-hour lesson but they'd pretty much had their fill after 1. 5 hrs which was fine... It was a little cold! Even though most schools hadn't yet broken up for the Summer, it was still pretty busy, with lots of surfers in the water. Must be a heck of a job for the RNLI who try to oversee things, and apparently it gets much busier. Apparently Prince William and Prince Harry were surfing at Polzeath just a couple of days earlier, so it's obviously the place to be!
