This castle’s distinctive round walls are visible from the A390, dominating a hill above the west bank of the Fowey River one mile north of Lostwithiel. The stone keep was built late in the thirteenth Century. It was occupied intermittently until serving as a garrison during the Civil War, but fell into disrepair and was a ruin by the eighteenth Century. English Heritage took over responsibility for the castle in 1984, it is now in relatively good condition and parts of its internal structure may still be seen.
