Shire Hall
Mount Folly, Bodmin, Cornwall
 PL31 2DQ - England, UK
  Share Location Map
The Shire Hall was built in 1837 as the County Assizes. Today, its main attraction is the Court Room Experience, which offers visitors the chance to take part in a mock 1840s trial, and even be a member of the jury. Other must-sees include a cantilevered staircase, 19th century holding cells and an impressive granite facade. The Shire Hall is also home to Bodmin's Tourist Office, where you can book accommodation and find out about the local area.

This is an impressive building, inside and out - one of the best in Bodmin, and the area around it is the most attractive part of the town. The holding cells are interesting and evocative, and the Courtroom Experience is good, but I was expecting - perhaps unrealistically - it to be enacted by real people. There was also a good market outside the building when I was there. The tourist office in the Shire Hall is one of the better ones in Cornwall. - Bodmin_fan
