Map
The present St Budeaux church was completed in 1563. It is the only Tudor period church in Plymouth, and was reportedly constructed from materials that were gathered from an older, smaller church that originally stood nearby. Church records include the marriage of Sir Francis Drake to Mary Newman on 4th July 1569, and also the burial of Lady Mary Drake in 1583. The church was the site of two battles during the English Civil War, when Royalists attacked the Parliamentarian city of Plymouth from Cornwall.
