St Decuman’s Holy Well is situated down the lane from the parish church in Watchet. A little way from the town centre, the well was a place of pilgrimage before the church was built. Legend says the Celtic saint sailed to Watchet from Wales on a raft. An unfriendly local took a dislike to the newcomer and decapitated him, after which the saint took his head, cleaned it in the well and put it back on! The Holy Well has been restored and is now a restful and meditative place.
