The church of St George in Wembdon was founded in 1285 but was largely rebuilt in 1868 because of a fire which destroyed the nave roof. Originally comprising a North and South aisle, chancel and nave with four bays, the West tower was added during the 14th Century. In the 15th Century, a rood screen and loft, a font, and stair tower were added and in the 17th Century, the nave was decorated with murals.
