The Norman church of St John the Baptist in Pawlett replaced an earlier Saxon structure. A Norman South doorway depicts biting beasts and zigzag moulding. The South door retains its 15th Century sanctuary ring. The font appears to be two separate ones, the bottom part probably Saxon. The rood screen is 15th Century, beautifully carved and with traces of the original painting and the North window shows Christ blessing children who are in modern dress and holding a teddy bear and toy boat.
