This church’s foundations were laid in 1858 and the building was completed in 1863. The spire differs greatly to the usual Somerset church towers and was designed by Sir Gilbert Scott. One of the interior features which attracts visitors to St John’s is the wonderful wrought iron chancel screen – look for the animals boarding Noah’s Ark. The high altar frontal is worthy of note for its solid gold-leaf and the church has some lovely stained glass windows. The Father Willis organ is used for occasional recitals here.
