St. Wynwallow’s Church is the most southerly church on the UK mainland, dedicated to a Breton saint. It lies in Church Cove, part of Lizard Village and about a mile east of Lizard Point. It is believed to have been founded around 600 AD but the oldest remaining part of the church is probably the 12th century Norman doorway. Various refurbishing and rebuilding have taken place at regular intervals and, like many Cornish churches, local serpentine stone has been used in places, the pulpit, lectern and font pillars being examples.
