Lundy Island lies off the coast of North Devon to the north of Hartland Point; there is a small settlement at the southern tip including the church of St. Helena. There were older churches on the island but these had fallen into disuse by about the end of the 18th Century. The present church was opened in 1897 replacing a corrugated iron chapel erected in 1885, fulfilling the lifetime dream of Rev. Hudson Grossett Heaven. The church is in the Victorian Gothic Revival style with a square tower, a chiming clock and a peal of eight bells.
