This enormous pillar towers over the central square of the little market town of Ottery St Mary in east Devon. The monument was erected to mark the 60th year of Queen Victoria's reign as queen of England. An extremely popular monarch Victoria was a great fan of this area of Devon and had been known to visit the historic Jurassic Coast.
