Wells Cathedral is the highlight of any visit to the small city of Wells. It has intricate Gothic carvings, one of the earliest mechanical clocks in the UK, a unique scissors vault, a marvellous chapter house and the splendid vicars’ hall. It is mostly a product of the 12th-14th centuries and embodies the very finest early Gothic architecture. The Cathedral is open daily from 7am to 7pm (8.30pm in July and August) and visitors are asked to make a donation.
