The island of Eigg offers plenty of sightseeing and wildlife interest for the outdoors tourist. There’s only one centre, where the ferry comes in at Glamisdale, on the south-east, where the island’s activity takes place. Here there’s a café, shop, and community centre which serves the small, but vibrant, population who took ownership of Eigg in 1997. Attractions include a short hike up to An Sgurr (which dominates the island), and the Camas Sgiotaig – the ‘singing sands’. Bring a picnic and enjoy the squeaking noise of the dry quartzite sands.
