To reach Elgol on Skye’s Strathaird Peninsula, visitors need a good set of wheels and plenty of time. The township is just 14 miles from Broadford but the whole route is via a single track road, albeit scenic. Elgol Beach is reached via a steep descent and consists of large, colourful pebbles rounded by the action of the sea, together with large rocks. There are stunning views from the beach across to the Black Cuillins and the Isle of Soay. Boat trips are available from the jetty across Loch Scavaig.
