Eriskay is a tiny and beautiful island which is connected to South Uist by a causeway. Am Baile, ‘the town’ in Gaelic, boasts one pub, Am Politician which is well situated for sunset viewing. The SS Politician was the name of the ill-fated ship which sank to the east of the new causeway in 1941, releasing its cargo of whisky. This episode was immortalised in the book and film ‘Whisky Galore’.
