Lying just off Oban, the island of Kerrera is a haven for daytrippers though it always maintains a tranquil atmosphere. This is in no small part due to the fact that there are no metalled roads on the island and little in the way of amenities. There’s a popular 10km circular walk of the island or simply follow the main track down to the Kerrera bunk house and tea gardens where the suntrap patio is a real delight. Nearby lies the MacDougalls’ impressively located 16th century Gylen Castle.
