Standing proudly in Castlebay on the Island of Barra, Kisimul Castle is a dramatic site especially when seen for the first time. Experts believe a castle has stood on the site since the late 12th century, although only parts of this original structure remains. A powerful clan, the Macneils, held considerable power from this castle in the 14th and 15th centuries. A regular Historic Scotland boat service serves Kisimul Castle.
