The island of Rum, designated a National Nature Reserve, in 1957 is one of the largest in Britain, covering more than 100 kilometres. Red deer are plentiful on the island which is crossed only by rough landrover tracks. Sea eagles breed on the island too after a successful reintroduction programme. For those who like their mountains the Rum Cuilinn offers a long and dramatic day out.
