Map
A gatehouse to Kirkstall Abbey was also created by the Cistercian monks in 1152. After the gatehouse was closed in 1539 by Henry VIII, it became a place of residence for distinguished, upper-class Leeds families. In 1927 Abbey House was re-opened as a public museum. The building exhibits several primary sources from the Victorian period. It also has an interactive childhood gallery and offers the chance to walk through a reconstruction of Victorian Streets.
