Built in 1920, the magnificent Abbeydale Picture House was the largest and most luxurious picture palace in Sheffield, with 1560 seats and a billiard hall and ballroom in the basement. For generations it entertained audiences with silent films, variety shows, and wide-screen spectaculars. Closed in 1975, the Grade II listed building was reopened in 2005 by the Friends of Abbeydale Picture House. Today it is a live music venue and also houses a snooker hall.
