Aberford is a large village 12 miles to the east of Leeds, West Yorkshire, and has developed on the Roman road that connects London to York (the ancient Great North Road). The name Aberford is Anglo-Saxon in origin and means "the crossing over the river". Nowadays the village is quieter than it once was, thanks to the A1 bypass.
