Albert Park was given to the people of Middlesbrough by the town’s first mayor Henry Bolckow. It was opened by Prince Arthur, son of Queen Victoria, on 11 August 1868 and named after his late father. The park offers an attractive 70 acres in the centre of Middlesbrough, retaining much of its Victorian splendour following recent restoration. Amenities include a bandstand, boating lake, roller skating, tennis courts, play area, visitors’ centre, café, fishing and bowling green, along with plenty of grassed areas and walks. Six structures in the park are Grade II listed buildings, including the Tower Clock and West Lodge.
