Although considered a visual monstrosity by many, the 20-story University of Sheffield Arts Tower is a Grade II listed building. Designed in the style of German architect Mies van der Rohe and inspired by New York City’s Seagram Building, the tallest building in Sheffield offers an impressive view from the top floor. The building was opened in 1965 by Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother. It houses several University departments, nine lecture theatres, and two cafes, one which is located on the 19th floor.
