Located in a monastic gatehouse at the heart of the town, the museum is in a structure that is over eight hundred years old. Once the main entrance to the local priory which was one of the wealthiest in Yorkshire, the museum was opened to the public in 1928. It contains a great collection of interesting artefacts that directly relate to the local and social history of this area.
