This splendid late Victorian facade is typical of many buildings in the ancient market town of Boroughbridge. Now the civic buildings and Post Office, this site once housed the tailors shop owned by the family of Captain Archie Cecil Thomas White V.C., M.C., who fought for the 6th Battalion of Yorkshire Regiment. In 1916 he was awarded the Victoria Cross for his “conspicuous bravery” on the Western Front.
