Boroughbridge is a thriving market town close to the A1M on the River Ure, steeped in history. An exquisitely carved angel marks the war memorial in Boroughbridge in the Old Butter Market. The memorial stands immediately outside the gates of Boroughbridge Hall (now a private house), which was the birthplace of the famous Victorian Isabella Bird (1831), explorer, missionary and author.
