A massive mid-Victorian structure, the Town (now City) Hall typifies the style of buildings commissioned by both public and private developers during the 19th Century expansion of Bradford. It was a city booming on the woolen trade with money to spend on grand designs that were built to last. Some of the buildings were lost in the 1960s re-developments but these civic headquarters are an excellent survivor.
