The Thellusson family came from France in the 1750s. The family had commercial success and by 1806 Peter Isaac Thellusson become the 1st Baron Rendlesham. Cousin Charles Thellusson (1822-1885) was born in Italy and on inheriting Brodsworth hired Italian architect Chevalier Casentini to design the present hall. The resulting country house is a fine example of mid-Victorian luxury living. Today it provides visitors with a taste of this grand life above and below stairs.
