The Captain Cook Birthplace Museum is set in the grounds of Stewart Park alongside the side of the cottage in which James Cook was born. The cottage, and later Marton Hall have long since disappeared, but the museum celebrates the life of the famous explorer in an interesting and informative manner. Exhibits include artifacts from the time of the Captain’s explorations, and from his life. Additional exhibits are also run regularly, with a yearly excavation of the village of East Marton (including the birthplace site) running each May.
