After the dissolution of the monasteries by Henry VIII in the 16th Century, this priory fell into a state of disrepair before being taken into private hands by a local family. The gardens are one of the most outstanding features of the property. Today they are looked after by a group of amateur enthusiasts who have tried to recreate the way that the area had looked for centuries.
